Search El Paso County Inmates

The El Paso County jail roster is run by the Sheriff's Office in Colorado Springs. People in custody at the Criminal Justice Center show up in the public search tool by name or booking number. The fastest way to look up El Paso County inmates is the EPSO inmate search page, which sends a query straight to the live booking system. A profile page lists charges, bond, court dates, holds, and warrants. The roster does not list state prison inmates, federal inmates, or anyone held by ICE. For those, a separate state or federal tool is used.

El Paso County Jail Roster Overview

The roster is hosted by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Joseph Roybal is the 29th sheriff of El Paso County. The office was created in 1861, when El Paso was one of Colorado Territory's 17 first counties. Today EPSO has 543 sworn staff and over 300 professional staff. They cover 2,130 square miles and more than 740,000 residents. The Detention Bureau runs the Criminal Justice Center, also called the CJC, at 2739 East Las Vegas Street. The roster pulls from the live jail management system. Bookings can show up within minutes of being entered, but the data is best treated as a public-facing snapshot, not the legal record.

The public search at search-for-inmates warns that data here is not for official law enforcement use. It also warns that mobile results may not be accurate. Anyone acting on the data should call the booking desk first. The booking desk number is 719-390-2151. Jail general information is 719-390-2000. These two phone lines are the backstop when the public roster is unclear.

The roster does not show every person held in El Paso County. It does not list inmates held in Colorado Department of Corrections prisons. It does not list inmates held in Federal Bureau of Prisons sites. It does not list ICE detainees. People in those systems should be looked up in the matching federal or state tools shown on the released inmates page.

How to Use the El Paso County Inmate Roster

The roster has one form and two text fields. A user enters a last name or a booking number. The form sends the value to the EPSO public API at search.php. The result list shows booking number, first name, middle name, and last name. Click a row to open the full profile. The screenshot below comes from the EPSO inmate search page seen on May 19, 2026. View the live form on the EPSO inmate search page.

El Paso County inmate records search form on the EPSO public roster

The form sits on a single page and works on a phone or a desktop browser. The same search runs both ways.

  1. Open the EPSO inmate search page.
  2. Type a last name in the Last Name field. Or type a booking number in the Booking Number field.
  3. Click the Search button. The form posts the value to search.php as searchName or searchBooking.
  4. Read the result list. Each row shows booking number, first name, middle name, and last name.
  5. Click the booking number to open the full inmate profile.
  6. Scroll to the Charges, Holds, and Warrants tables. Match the case number to the docket.
  7. If the result is unclear, call the booking desk at 719-390-2151 before taking any action.

Note: A name search with no results does not always mean the person is free; the booking record may not yet be live, and a quick call to the jail at 719-390-2000 will confirm.

El Paso County Inmate Search Fields

The portal supports two input fields. Only one of the two is needed. The form does not accept date of birth, charge type, race, sex, or housing as a search input. This keeps the lookup tied to people currently booked at the CJC. A direct API view sits at the search.php endpoint. The image below shows the raw API response. View the live endpoint at search.php.

Booking and Advisement in El Paso County

The jail's Intake and Release unit handles bookings under C.R.S. 17-26-103. Intake fingerprints and photographs the person, records property, opens the booking file, and assigns the booking number. Records maintained during a jail stay include court updates, new charges, bond charges, work-release fees, pretrial services notes, and holds placed by other agencies. The Court Unit, based in the Terry Harris Judicial Complex, escorts inmates to courtrooms and secures them. The Transport Unit moves inmates to the courthouse and across Colorado.

First appearance happens fast. In-custody advisements run Monday through Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Division Video Advisement courtroom.
